How Important are your Postal Uniform Shoes?

Did you know that your feet alone have 25% of your body’s collected bone mass?  What that means is the likelihood of feet problems is very high.  If you don’t take care of your feet by wearing good shoes, you could be experiencing problems like foot pain, obviously, but also backaches, headaches and overall muscle tension throughout your body.

Not only are good shoes important, but also keep in mind that worn shoes start to lose their benefits.  So, replacing your shoes is also important!

Do your shoes look worn?

Baby It’s Cold Outside

postal uniforms outerwear - winterwear - coatsWhat’s the best solution for your postal uniform needs in the Winter?

Layering seems to be better than just one big bulky coat, and it’s probably easier to move around in too.  Consider the Fleece Jacket (#342) over a sweater or a favorite hoodie.

Did you know the Outerwear Pants (#341) are not only perfect for Winter but are windproof and waterproof too?!

Nothing grips the mail like the Ni-tex gloves (#29).  Wear a pair of the Half Finger gloves (#13) over them…keeps the base of the hand nice and warm and you still have agility in the fingers.

We lose up to 47% of our body heat thru our heads, so make sure to cover your head with a Watch Cap (#320) or Fur Hat (#560).

We hope you found these tips to be useful.  Make sure to share our blog with your co-workers and follow us on Facebook and/or Twitter for postal uniform sales/promotions PLUS the latest in postal news and information.

Keepin’ it Cool

Summertime Postal UniformsWith temperatures and heat indexes above 100 across the nation, there’s no denying that summer has officially arrived.  Not everyone has the option of simply staying indoors.

Here are a few great tips to help you keep cool:

Probably the first thing that you want to do as a postal employee is make sure that you are wearing your summer-weight trousers, pants, cullotes, etc.  Additionally, cotton socks tend to breath better than acryllic. Light colors are preferred to dark colors in the summer, so you may want to consider the white cotton ankle sock.

Of course, you will want to wear sun glasses to protect your eyes and wear a wide-brimmed hat to cover the most exposed part of your body, your head.

Here are a few postal regulation headwear selections at Postal Uniforms Direct that were designed to help you keep cool:

Perhaps a bit extreme, but if it gets really hot, you may want to invert your hat and pour cold water into it then put it on!

Other tips for keeping cool:

  • Keep a spray bottle filled with water available to mist your face.
  • If your work space doesn’t have a fan, consider purchasing a small, battery operated hand fan.
  • Stay hydrated. Avoid caffiene as it causes dehydration.
  • If allowed, take a small cooler filled with ice and water bottles with you!

We hope you have enjoyed some of these tips.  What are some other ways you have found to stay cool while on the job with USPS?

Postal Rainwear: Good, Better and Best

With the Spring Rains just around the corner, it is time to talk about Postal Rainwear.  At Postal Uniforms Direct, we offer four different choices in Postal Rainwear.  [click here to view our full line of Postal certified rainwear]

The least expensive of our postal rainwear line includes the Full Length Postal Rain Coat, Postal Rain Cape, Parka and Rain Pants. All are all made of Denier Nylon, the very plastic feeling rainwear.  It will keep you dry, but it does not breathe, so you will have condensation build up under it that can cause a damp feeling.

The ’better‘ postal rainwear in the Parka and Pants is a bit more breathable and not quite as plastic feeling as the least expensive line. A good middle of the road choice for rainwear.

Which leads us to the best, which would be the Gore Tex and the New Outerwear Parka Shell and Pants.  These are both wonderful products.  You will be dry and comfortable. Both are very expensive, so be sure to utilize them over your winter wear as well.

How Wide is Wide?

new balance postal walking shoeWe are talking about postal uniform shoes!

Now, contrary to popular belief, your shoe size most likely is not the same as it was when you graduated from High School. What is, right? Having your feet measured by a professional would be ideal, but perhaps not convenient.

So, take a look at the shoes you have. How are the sizes running? Mostly one certain size, varying by a 1/2 size or so?

Now, for your postal shoe width

The average person purchases and wears normal/medium width in postal shoes.

One of our most popular questions about postal shoes is, “How wide is wide? Is it a lot wider, than medium?”

Well, here’s the thing, when you are checking your shoes, the width will be listed. Usually by an M or W, or perhaps a XW. Or it may be listed as AA, B, D, EE. Depending on the manufacturer, these letters will indicate the width of the shoe.

If all the shoes you have are listed as a D or Medium width, and they aren’t protruding over the sole at the pinky toe area, then you are most likely still in a medium width shoe. If you can see that the shoes are clearly bulging over at the pinky toe area, or if new postal shoes really pinch that area, it is time for a Wide Width, or even a 1/2 size larger in a shoe.

All shoes run different in size and width. All Postal Shoes are manufactured in the United States (which by the way, includes Puerto Rico), so the sizing may be a bit different than shoes which are not.

Your feet are your livelihood, be good to them. Choose your postal shoes and your shoe sizes wisely.

At Postal Uniforms Direct, we carry postal shoes from a variety of manufacturs including:

A Thing or Two about Postal Uniform Socks

Postal Uniform SocksAt Postal Uniforms Direct, we carry two sizes of postal uniform socks, the sock size 9-11 and the sock size 10-13.  Socks styles are specified by numbers, and if you need a smaller sock, select a sock style number with the letter F.

The sock size 9-11 is a good fit for anyone wearing a men’s shoe size 9 and smaller, or ladies up to size 9.

The sock size 10-13 is for those in men’s shoe size 9.5 & up, and ladies in size 9 & up.

Questions for postal uniform socks:

Do you prefer your postal socks to be Cotton or Acrylic fabric? Ankle or Crew? (Ankle are the short ones, Crew is half way up the leg.) Blue, white or black?

Socks are important…know your socks!
